In the field of metal rolling processing, cold rolling mills and hot rolling mills are two core equipment, widely used in industries such as steel and non-ferrous metals. There are significant differences between the two in terms of process principles, finished product characteristics and applicable scenarios.
The surface of the hot rolling mill has oxide scale and a relatively high roughness (Ra 3.2-12.5μm), which is suitable for scenarios where the appearance requirements are not strict. The surface of the cold rolling mill is smooth and free of oxidation (Ra 0.4-1.6μm), and can be directly used for precision processing such as coating and spraying.
The tolerance range of hot-rolled products is relatively wide (±0.1 to 0.5mm), while that of cold-rolled products is extremely high (±0.01 to 0.05mm).
Hot-rolled products have good toughness but relatively low strength. Cold-rolled products have higher strength due to work hardening (tensile strength increases by 10% to 30%).
Hot rolling: usually ≥1.2mm; Cold rolling: Can be as thin as 0.05mm (such as extremely thin precision strip steel).
High-end applications often adopt the combination of "hot rolling + cold rolling" (for example, automotive plates are first hot-rolled to reduce thickness and then cold-rolled to finish).
