Understand Different Types Of Hot Rolling Machines

Hot rolling mills can be classified into the following main types and characteristics based on their structure, application, and process features:
1. Classified by the number of rolls
Double-roll hot rolling mill
Simple structure, widely used. It can be divided into reversible type (such as initial rolling mill, medium-thick plate rolling mill) and irreversible type (such as continuous steel billet rolling mill).
Three-roll hot rolling mill
The workpiece is rolled alternately through the upper and lower roll gaps, mainly used for the production of section steel and steel beams, but has low efficiency and is gradually replaced by the double-roll type.
Four-roll hot rolling mill
The working roll diameter is small, the supporting roll diameter is large, with high rigidity and low rolling force, suitable for rolling thin plates, widely used in medium-thick plate and strip steel hot rolling.
Multi-roll hot rolling mill (such as twelve-roll, twenty-roll)
The working roll diameter is extremely small, with low rolling force, suitable for high-precision thin strips, but has a complex structure.
2. Classified by process application
Shearing hot rolling mill
Uses steel ingots as raw materials, providing billets for subsequent rolling, including square billet, plate initial rolling mill.
Strip and plate hot rolling mill
Includes thick plate rolling mill, wide strip rolling mill, etc., used for producing thick plates or continuous strip steel.
Section steel hot rolling mill
Such as rail and beam rolling mill, medium-sized rolling mill, mainly producing section steel and wire rods.
3. Other special types
Planetary rolling mill: Achieves high thinning rate (90%-95%) through the planetary roller system, suitable for hot rolling thin strips.
HC rolling mill: High-performance rolling mill, capable of controlling roller profile curvature, suitable for complex plate production.
Hot rolling mills usually operate at high temperatures, with good steel plasticity but a surface oxide layer, requiring subsequent treatment. The selection of hot rolling mills needs to be comprehensively considered based on product size, precision, and production efficiency requirements.
