Safety Operating Procedures For Hot Rolling Machines

I. Scope of Application
This regulation applies to the operation and maintenance of all hot rolling machines and related auxiliary equipment in the hot rolling workshop of steel enterprises, covering the entire process from pre-rolling preparation, production operation, equipment maintenance, and emergency handling, aiming to prevent risks such as high temperatures, mechanical injuries, and electrical accidents.
II. Pre-operation Preparation
Personnel Qualifications and Protection
Operators must hold certificates and undergo specialized training in rolling machine operation, high-temperature operations, and emergency handling.
Wear heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, flame-retardant work clothes, and anti-puncture safety shoes. Long hair must be tucked into the safety helmet.
Equipment Inspection
Confirm that the roll gap, hydraulic system pressure (0.2-0.4 MPa), lubrication system oil pressure, and heating furnace temperature (heating steel billets to 1150-1250℃) meet the process requirements.
Check the emergency stop device, safety interlock system, and infrared protective fence to ensure they are functioning properly.
III. Rolling Operation Procedures
Start-up Procedure
Sound the alarm and then start the rolling machine. Run it without load for 3 minutes to observe the temperature rise and vibration values of the bearings.
For the first pass of rolling, require double-person operation. The main control console and on-site personnel should confirm synchronously through walkie-talkies.
Production Process Control
Do not cross the red steel roller track. When adjusting the guide device, the machine must be stopped and locked with a sign.
When rolling parameters are abnormal (such as sudden change in roll gap, motor overload), immediately trigger the emergency stop, and check for foreign object blockage or hydraulic system failure.
Shutting Down Procedure
The oil furnace temperature must drop below 80℃ before the motor can be turned off to prevent the rolling roller from thermal deformation.
Cleaning the steel adhered to the roller surface requires the use of special tools. Direct contact with the hot roller is strictly prohibited.
IV. Special Operations Management
Roll Change Operations
Before using the crane to lift the rolling roller, confirm that the lifting tool has no cracks. The commander and crane operator must hold certificates to cooperate.
The rolling roller storage area should be equipped with anti-tipover supports. The distance between adjacent rollers should be ≥ 1.5 meters.
Maintenance and Repair
Follow the "power-off - electrical testing - sign hanging" procedure. After the hydraulic system depressurizes, the pipelines can be disassembled.
The addition of lubricating oil requires the use of explosion-proof electric pumps. Do not use compressed air for sweeping.
V. Emergency Handling
Burn Injury Treatment
Immediately rinse the injured area with flowing cold water for 15 minutes. Avoid puncturing blisters and activate the workshop emergency response plan.
Mechanical Injury
After cutting off the power source, use a hydraulic cutter and expander for rescue. Do not directly drag the injured person.
Fire Extinguishing
The heating furnace area is equipped with dry powder fire extinguishers. For electrical fires, use the CO₂ fire extinguishing device first.
VI. Supervision and Improvement
Monthly organize safety joint inspections. Focus on verifying the response time of the emergency stop button (≤ 0.5 seconds) and the integrity of the protective cover. The accident cases are included in the team's safety meeting for analysis, and the revision of the procedures needs to be approved by the safety department.
